Meet Pickle

Sweet • Curious • Affectionate

Pickle is a handsome black and tan Miniature Dachshund with a classic smooth coat and an adorable, expressive face. In his photographs he looks sweet and curious — happy to potter around the garden, then just as happy to curl up in a soft bed with a toy. These are observations of Pickle as a puppy today rather than guarantees about his adult temperament.

About This Puppy

Pickle is a ten-week-old male black and tan smooth-coated Miniature Dachshund, available now at $1,000, AKC registered with his vaccinations up to date. His coat is the classic black and tan of the breed, short and glossy, with tan eyebrow markings, tan on his muzzle, chest and legs, and the low-set velvet ears that give him such an expressive face. A smooth coat is straightforward to care for — a quick wipe over and an occasional brush is usually all it needs. His photographs come from ordinary days: exploring the lawn with a rope toy, trotting through the grass with his tail up, and dozing in a plush bed once the running is finished. At ten weeks he is at an important stage of early development and socialization, and this profile is here so families can learn more about Pickle and decide whether his personality and needs may be a good fit for their home. Text us for more photographs, a short video of Pickle, or a walkthrough of what reserving him involves.

Pickle's Coat — Common Questions

  • What coat types do Dachshunds have?

The breed has three coat varieties: smooth (also called shorthair), longhaired and wirehaired. All three occur in Miniature Dachshunds. Coat variety affects grooming and appearance, not the fundamental character of the breed.

  • What is the difference between long-haired and smooth-haired Dachshunds?

A smooth (shorthair) Dachshund has a short, sleek, close-lying coat that needs very little maintenance — a weekly wipe-down or brush is usually enough. A long-haired Dachshund has a longer, silkier coat with feathering on the ears, chest, legs and tail; that feathering keeps growing and can tangle, so long-haired dogs need regular brushing, especially behind the ears and on the trousers and tail.

  • How much do Miniature Dachshunds shed?

Dachshunds shed moderately year-round, with heavier seasonal changes. Smooth coats shed short hairs that are easy to lift with a rubber curry or grooming mitt. Long coats shed longer hairs that are more visible on furniture and clothing but are easier to manage with consistent brushing. No Dachshund coat variety is considered hypoallergenic.
