Seven unhurried steps, from meeting our available Miniature Dachshund puppies to settling your new companion in at home.
Choosing a puppy is a decision families should be able to make calmly and with good information. We answer questions personally by text, we publish only what we can confirm about each puppy, and the $400 Puppy Reservation Deposit stays fully refundable so no one feels locked in before they have met their puppy.
Step 1
Start on the Available Puppies page. Each puppy has a photo gallery and an individual profile listing price, sex, coat color and hair type, age, vaccination status and AKC registration, along with a personality description written specifically for that puppy. Take your time comparing temperaments and energy levels rather than choosing on color alone.

When a puppy stands out, send us a text. Every puppy card and profile has a message button that opens your texting app with that puppy's name already filled in. It helps to tell us a little about your household — adults, children and their ages, other pets, house or apartment — and your general timing.

Ask us anything before going further — what the puppy is like around people and noise, how they compare with their littermates, what their current vaccination status is, and what daily life with a Miniature Dachshund realistically looks like. Many common questions about the breed, grooming, training and back health are already answered in detail on our FAQ. There is no deadline on this step.
Step 4
A $400 fully refundable reservation deposit reserves the specific puppy you have chosen. The deposit is applied toward the puppy's total adoption fee and is not an additional charge. If you meet the puppy and decide they are not the right fit for your family, the $400 reservation deposit is fully refundable.

Step 5
The health, comfort, and well-being of our puppies always come first. Visits are by appointment only, and we schedule one family at a time so the puppies keep a calm routine and every visiting family gets unhurried time together.
A $250 Visit Commitment Deposit is required to book an in-person appointment. Appointments must be booked at least 24 hours before the intended visiting day.
If you proceed with adoption, the $250 Visit Commitment Deposit is applied toward the puppy's total adoption fee. It is not an additional charge, and it is fully refundable if you decide the puppy is not the right fit for your family.
Our goal is to make the experience comfortable, transparent, and pressure-free, so you can make the decision that feels right for your family.
Step 6
A little preparation makes the first week far calmer. Here is what we suggest having ready before your puppy comes home.
A quiet corner away from household traffic where your puppy can nap undisturbed. Young puppies sleep a great deal, and protected rest prevents overtired, nippy behavior.
Just large enough for your puppy to stand, turn around and stretch out. Introduced kindly, a crate supports house training and later gives your Dachshund a familiar place to settle.
Shallow, stable bowls at floor level. Long-haired puppies often do better with a narrower bowl that keeps ear feathering out of the food.
A complete, balanced diet formulated for growth. Ask your veterinarian to confirm the food and portion size for your puppy's age and weight, and change foods gradually over about a week.
A well-fitted harness spreads pressure across the chest instead of the neck, which many Dachshund owners prefer for walks. Add an ID tag before your puppy comes home.
Size-appropriate toys with no small parts to swallow, plus a suitable chew. Rotating a few toys keeps a curious hound puppy engaged.
Book a wellness visit for shortly after your puppy comes home so your veterinarian can examine them and set an ongoing vaccination and parasite-prevention plan.
Get down to floor level and look for cords, small objects, houseplants, cleaning products and gaps behind furniture. Plan from day one to limit stairs and discourage jumping on and off furniture.
Decide in advance how you will introduce children and resident pets: short, calm, supervised meetings that end before anyone gets tired.

Step 7
Give your puppy a few quiet days to adjust before introducing visitors or outings. A new home is a lot of change at once, and most puppies settle faster with less stimulation rather than more.
Establish a routine early: consistent meal times, frequent trips outside — after waking, after eating, after play — protected nap times, and a predictable bedtime. Structure is what makes house training click, and Dachshunds in particular do well with it.
Keep socialization going gradually. Positive, unhurried exposure to new people, sounds, surfaces, handling and calm dogs builds lasting confidence; follow your veterinarian's guidance about where a partially vaccinated puppy can safely go.
Continue veterinary care on the schedule your veterinarian sets, keep your Dachshund lean, encourage steady low-impact exercise, lift with support under the chest and hindquarters, and discourage repeated jumping on and off furniture. These habits are the most useful long-term thing an owner can do for a long-backed breed.
