Charlie is a cream long-haired Miniature Dachshund male, nine weeks old and available now at $1,000. He is AKC registered and his vaccinations are up to date. In his photos you can see the qualities families look for in a cream Miniature Dachshund puppy: a light golden-cream coat with the silky feathering typical of the long-haired variety, long low-set ears, and a soft, expressive face. Charlie's Coat — Common Questions
What does "cream Dachshund" mean?
Cream refers to a pale, soft blond-to-ivory coat color that appears in Dachshunds and is especially striking on long-haired dogs, where the feathering catches the light. Cream coats can lighten or deepen slightly as a puppy matures, so an adult coat may look a little different from the puppy coat.
What is the difference between long-haired and smooth-haired Dachshunds?
A smooth (shorthair) Dachshund has a short, sleek, close-lying coat that needs very little maintenance — a weekly wipe-down or brush is usually enough. A long-haired Dachshund has a longer, silkier coat with feathering on the ears, chest, legs and tail; that feathering keeps growing and can tangle, so long-haired dogs need regular brushing, especially behind the ears and on the trousers and tail.
How often should a Dachshund be groomed?
As a general routine: brush a smooth coat about once a week; brush a long coat two to four times a week and daily during heavy shedding. Bathe only as needed, typically every four to eight weeks or when dirty, using a dog-appropriate shampoo. Check and trim nails every few weeks, clean the ears as your veterinarian advises — Dachshunds' long, pendulous ears trap moisture — and work on daily tooth brushing, since small breeds are prone to dental disease.
